1965 Factory Big Block Mystery Chevelle
This fun project came to our shop in November of 2008 with an intriguing story.
Originally this Chevelle was the property of GM and assigned to one of its executives,
where it was fitted with a big block motor and became what was commonly called a
"test mule." This so called test mule served the executive so well that he later
bought the car from GM and passed down through his family where it was eventually
sold to a gentleman in Arizona. It was under this ownership that a hot-rodded Chevelle
was produced. Springs were cut, custom jet boat style upholstery was installed,
and pink and purple paint appeared on various chassis and engine components.
Given the cars rich history and discussions between the owner and our shop, it seemed
only fitting that this classic be restored as a Z-16 tribute car. It will primarily
feature vintage attributes such as paint, trim, upholstery, and engine dress. Straying
from the definition of a clone this car will enjoy aftermarket components such as
disc brakes, radial tires, modern audio, while utilizing the 454 that is already
there. The end result will be a comfortable driving vehicle that has the factory
appearance of a unique and special model.
